For Cruisers: Pergamon Acropolis & Asclepion Tour from Kusadasi Port

Pergamon was one of the most important cultural and political centres of the Hellenistic world. This private tour from Kusadasi Port or Izmir Port gives you a thorough visit to its Acropolis, royal buildings and key monuments.

Your private guide meets you at the port with a name sign and travels with you by comfortable vehicle to Pergamon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The tour begins with a cable car ride up to the Acropolis, which stands on a high hill overlooking the valley. You explore the ruins of the ancient city and see the site of the Altar of Zeus, one of the great monuments of the Hellenistic age.

You then visit the Acropolis Theatre, built into the steep hillside and one of the most impressive theatres of the ancient world, with sweeping views over the surrounding countryside.

Next is the Asclepion of Pergamon, one of the most famous medical centres of antiquity, dedicated to Asclepius, the god of healing. You walk through the sacred complex, with its treatment rooms, colonnaded courtyards and theatre, and learn about early medical practices and the holistic therapies used in Roman times.

Pergamon was also famous for its library and for the development of parchment. You learn about the city's intellectual importance and visit a local workshop to see how parchment is traditionally made.

After the visit you return to your port in time for boarding.
